Junior Va’a (V1/OC1) program

The Jr. V1/OC1 program focuses on the learning and application of the V1/OC1 single-man crafts. Participants engage in not only the cultural significance of what the va’a represents but the values that we learn through its implementation. Way-finding, safety, health, and competence on utilizing water crafts on the ocean create a unique learning opportunity for enhancing the capabilities of our youth in achieving their short and long-term goals.

He Va’a, Hoe i Ka Lanakila

The Jr. V1/OC1 program is a year-long training activity that prepares the youth to compete in the OC1 season that begins its pre-season in November and runs into late May. From this program participants are prepared with the necessary capacity to transition into the 6-man outrigger racing canoe season that begins in April and ends in August. Through participant understanding of periodization of training strategies, knowledge is gained to build individual programs that enhance their physical, mental, and spiritual performance.
